28 November 2024 marked the centenary of the birth of South African poet, teacher, academic and human rights activist Dennis Brutus. Amazwi’s new exhibition ‘Dennis Brutus | 100’ honours Brutus’s memory with a selection of significant and interesting items from the museum’s collections of his work. As well as giving insight into his eventful and inspiring life as an anti-apartheid activist, the exhibition reveals lesser known aspects of Brutus’s work such as his passion for nature and his tendency to write on any scrap of paper that came to hand.

Visit the exhibition in Amazwi’s Temporary Exhibition Gallery at the museum’s headquarters, 25a Worcester Street, Makhanda. Amazwi is open weekdays, from 08:30 to 16:00. Entrance is free.
