In December 2024 Amazwi librarian Petro Nhlapo retired. In her many years at Amazwi Petro worked with the press clipping collection and managed the museum’s journal subscriptions. She assisted visiting and corresponding researchers, and the Facebook post on her retirement has elicited many grateful comments from those she has helped over the years.

Petro was an enthusiastic supporter of museum events. She was a regular attendee at book launches and readings, attended events such as conferences and literary festivals, and joined in education programmes and readings to children when needed. Petro published a few poems and took part in Amazwi’s collaborative children’s literature project with the Rhodes Centre for Social Development, writing a children’s story in Afrikaans titled, Vaaljas. The book is freely downloadable. Petro has also attended and participated in several Schreiner Karoo Writers Festival programmes.

Amazwi wishes Petro well in her retirement. She will be missed.
