Cycles Second Walkabout

On the 27th of June 2023, Amazwi and the Environmental Learning Research Centre at Rhodes University Education Faculty hosted the Second Cycles Walkabout. The programme was well attended with local as well as international guests. Amazwi is grateful to all the stakeholders who made it happen.

PGDHM Candidates at Amazwi!

The Anthropology Department of Rhodes University has requested an opportunity for two of their 2023 Postgraduate Diploma in Heritage Management Studies (PGDHM), Nompumezo Makinana and Vatiswa Nhanha, to be on placement at Amazwi as part of the academic programme contributing to the fulfilment of the requirements of successfully completing the PGDHM. This placement happens in the months of July and August 2023 (Taruvinga 2023).

Cycles Exhibition First Walkabout

On the 24 of June 2023, Amazwi and the Environmental Learning Research Centre at Rhodes University Education Faculty hosted the first Cycles Walkabout. It was exciting to initiate dialogue around the Cycles Exhibition Walkabout!

Ha Ha Ha Launch

On the 30th of June 2023, Mr Zongezile Matshoba, the Education and Public Programme Manager, launched one of his three books, ‘Ha ha ha.’ The book is a comic and is written in vernacular – IsiXhosa. The support for the launch and the book was amazing.

Dr Masuku at the Lit Fest

Dr Masuku welcomes people to the National Arts Festival Literature Festival also known as Lit Fest. There were dedicated Sign Language interpreters throughout the festival.

Kingswood College Grade 8s and 9s visit Amazwi

On the 9th of June 2023, Kingswood College Juniors visited us for a general tour of the museum conducted by Mrs Nozipho Madinda the Education Officer as well as their History Museum Outing Assignment. The questions discussed were based on the museum collection and History as it speaks to their curriculum. What an awesome experience to host learners with such zeal for History as a Learning Area (Subject).

New Exhibition at Amazwi: Literature for Children!

Amazwi South African Museum of Literature presents an exhibition of items that relate to South Africa’s rich treasury of children’s literature. Curated from the museum’s collections, this exhibition is a teaser for one which is in development by Amazwi to celebrate the life and work for Dr Sindiwe Magona. Magona, one of South Africa’s most beloved storytellers, is a prolific author of books for children and celebrates her 80th birthday in August 2023.
